Buccaneers and Freebooters

Buccaneers and Freebooters is a brutal, immersive first-person shooter set in the Caribbean at the end of the 18th century, at the heart of the colonial conflicts that pitted European powers against one another for control of the islands. The player defends a coastal fort against waves of attackers landing from the sea — a fiction rooted in real, unfiltered, violent history.

The world draws from the historical figures of buccaneers and freebooters, the irregular fighters who lived throughout the Caribbean and gravitated toward colonial conflicts. French soldiers, local militia, independent corsairs — each profile offers a distinct way of inhabiting this world, with its own weapons, tactical advantages, and place in the battle.

Gameplay is built on realistic, unforgiving mechanics: manual reloading of muskets and pistols, localized damage, cannon operation from the fort walls, looting ammunition from enemy bodies. No intrusive HUD, no compromise — the violence of the era is rendered without attenuation. Target rating: PEGI 18.

Produced by CARIALITY Studio, Buccaneers and Freebooters is developed in Unreal Engine 5 with a pipeline integrating motion capture, 3D modeling, and real-time physical effects. The prototype currently in development lays the foundation for a gaming experience that places Martinique and the Caribbean at the center of a genre — the historical FPS — until now dominated by European and American theaters of war.
